The US federal government’s partial shutdown has forced the Smithsonian museums, including the National African American history museum in Washington DC, to close temporarily.
President Trump met with congressional leaders at the White House on Wednesday. Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell said no progress was made. Federal workers will miss their January 11 paycheck unless the government reopens.
The NAAHM and other Smithsonian museums will remain closed until funding legislation is passed by Congress and signed by President Trump or until some other source of money is found to operate the institutions.
